Summary of the project:

The project consists of Design, fabrication, assembly and testing of a Jet Engine, using a large diesel Truck turbocharger, on a small scale level. The turbocharger serves as an integrated compressor & turbine assembly which is suitably manipulated (carefully converted) in to an open cycle constant pressure gas turbine. The project mainly involves complex modeling, designing and analysis of combustion chamber using software packages like comsol, mat lab, ANSYS and other related softwares like AutoCAD, solidworks etc; and then complete fabrication of the same completely by us.

Application:

Turbojet engine project is meant to develop pure axial thrust that can be used for propelling a locomotive like a go-cart or a small water boat.

Features of the project:

The project includes construction of working model of an actual gas turbine engine and it is first of its kind to be ever constructed in VJTI.

This project precisely integrates all the theoretical knowledge that is being taught in mechanical Engineering.

It tries to attract the attention of the propulsion designers to think of new and innovative ways of propulsion.

Achievements:

Successfully designed and fabricated feasible, and efficiently working combustion chamber which is the heart of the turbojet engine.

As a group we continue to seek new ways to combine engineering abilities with individual experience. Every challenge is a chance to improve both the design and our knowledge base.
