Introduction

The world has modernized but still blind people all over the world face many problems doing their daily chores. Many people use sticks to know about their surroundings. It takes a lot of time for them to completely become familiar with the objects around.

So we would like to exhibit our helping aid not only for the blind but also for the physically handicapped. The device would constantly tell the user about his/her position and also tell them about the objects around them. The user can control this device through voice commands and can read many signs and hoardings through OCR.
This technology can be used in mobiles and tablets to make it much smarter.

Applications

OPTICAL CHARACTER RECOGNITION APPLICATIONS:

• It can be used extract written or printed alphabets from an image.
• To recognize the alphabets and write them into a text file and convert the text file into speech (tentative).
• Highly beneficial for the blind as a reading aid without the Braille script.
• Affords reading ability to a machine.
• Can be used for converting images of written matter directly into text files.
• Can be used for reading and translating written matter from one language to other.

VOICE RECOGNITION APPLICATIONS:

• Things like opening the folders, starting an application and controlling it, controlling media players and slide shows can be done.
• Speech recognition applications include voice user interface such as voice dialing (e.g., "Call home"), appliance control, simple data entry.
